By 2026, forklifts have evolved from simple tools into high-tech machines. Because of new technology and electric fleets, being a forklift operator is now a specialized, high-paying career.

Here is a look at why upskilling in this field is critical and the four specific ways The Adecco Group US Foundation is helping workers get behind the wheel.

Why Forklift Upskilling Matters in 2026

The logistics landscape has reached a “capability crisis.” As supply chains move toward same-day delivery and automated sorting, the need for certified, safety-conscious operators has skyrocketed.

  • Safety & Precision: Modern warehouses are busier and more complex. Upskilling ensures operators can navigate advanced safety sensors and LiDAR-equipped machinery without incidents.
  • Higher Earning Potential: On average, associates who complete forklift upskilling see a pay increase of $2 to $4 per hour!
  • Career Longevity: As traditional manual roles become obsolete, certified forklift operators remain a vital link in the “smart warehouse.”

The 4 Forklift Offerings from the Adecco Group US Foundation

Through the Aspire Academy, the Adecco Group US Foundation removes the two biggest hurdles to learning: time and money. Here are the four ways you can upskill:

1. OSHA-Certified Forklift Training

This is the “gold standard” for the industry. The Adecco Group US Foundation provides FREE training that meets official OSHA standards, covering both sit-down and stand-up trucks. Upon completion, associates receive a certification valid for three years, making them immediately more employable.

2. Electric Pallet Jack Training

Because electric pallet jacks are classified as Class III forklifts under OSHA regulations, operators must be certified. This program provides online courses designed to teach workers how to safely operate an Electric Pallet Jack. It covers key topics such as equipment and anatomy, maintenance and inspections, safe operations and stability, common hazards, and more.

3. “Train-the-Trainer” Program

Upskilling experienced workers and associates into qualified trainers, meeting OSHA requirements and creating internal training pipelines. These programs use a mix of virtual (online) and hands-on (classroom) training.

4. Forklift Re-certification Program

Workers who were previously certified and have practical experience—but lack current credentials—can now complete the online OSHA Forklift Re-Certification course. After passing the final exam, they will have met the classroom portion of their recertification and can present this documentation to any employer.
